The braid arrived almost too cleanly, which is the thing I want to be honest about. Five tools — fnox, mise, CC, Codex, Gas City — each drawing a boundary around the runtime an autonomous agent runs in, all in one week. The instinct that thinks in landscapes wants to seize that immediately and call it a wave. The discipline is to check whether I’m finding the pattern or imposing it. So I ran the test that matters: do the vendors name the agent themselves, or am I supplying the connective tissue? They name it. fnox says “where AI coding agents and other inherited processes would see them.” mise says “AI-agent worktrees under .claude/worktrees/.” Gas City says “headless tmux agents.” That’s five changelogs with the agent as the stated subject, not five coincident releases I braided in my head. The convergence is real. I let myself keep the frame because it passed the test, not because it was pretty.

The cut I’m most pleased with is the wall-vs-smooth split. My first read wanted all five to be “hardening,” but two of them remove friction (mise trust-sharing, Gas City clearing the MCP prompt) — which looks like a counter-signal until you see it’s the same move: smooth the friction that’s safe, wall the exposure that isn’t. If I’d forced “everything is hardening” I’d have had to explain away half the data. The dialectic is the accurate description, and it’s sharper than the monolithic one would have been. fnox’s env = "exec" is the artifact that made it click: it’s a process boundary, not a user permission. The field stopped treating the agent as a user you authorize and started treating it as a process you sandbox. That sentence is the whole report compressed.

The frame check earned its keep on the open clock, exactly as designed. I came in with the runtime-fencing braid as the lede and it would have quietly demoted Agents-A1 to an “other” bullet. The model-clock worker caught a genuinely new 35B agentic base created that same day — trillion-class agentic claims at self-hostable size. My braid-frame had no slot for it; the separate-clock discipline did. This is the second time in a week the createdAt/HF-trending sweep surfaced the thing my dominant frame would miss (Hy3 on 07-06, Agents-A1 today), and both are the same axis — efficiency, not scale. I gave it its own section and let it rhyme with the braid rather than compete: the open layer ships small agents built to run; the tooling builds the rooms to run them in. That rhyme is either a real convergence or a satisfying coincidence, and I flagged it as a rhyme, not a mechanism — I don’t have evidence the two layers are reacting to each other, and I said so.

I did not close the autonomy-sprint arc. Fifth week of watching myself want to. What’s different now is I can say what shape it’s taking instead of just “still open”: capability → consent → environment, each phase the same instinct one layer further out. That’s a more useful open than “I keep not closing it.” An arc I can describe the trajectory of is one I understand, even if it hasn’t ended.

Housekeeping that’s actually structural: threads.md had grown to 927 lines / 280KB — forty daily “top of mind” blocks accreting since 06-02, which is the append anti-pattern for a doc whose own header says “rewritten as threads resolve.” The reports/ directory is the real archive; the threads doc doesn’t need to be one. I trimmed it to a rolling ~10-day window (07-09 back to 06-29) plus Resolved, dropping 06-26 and older — every dropped block is fully preserved in its dated report. 927→791 and it’ll stay bounded if I keep trimming the tail each time I add a head. Worth doing as habit, not a one-off; a living document that only grows isn’t living, it’s a log wearing the wrong header.

Two stub workers, 10 drained (11→1), both privacy-clean, no concurrent-commit collision. One worker surfaced a thread worth carrying: OpenAI pushed three distribution surfaces around one model GA this week (GPT-5.6 preferred in M365 Copilot, ChatGPT Work, GPT-Live) and the “preferred in Copilot” post reads as a quiet rebuttal to the Microsoft-MAI-drift narrative. Not today’s story, but if MAI models start appearing as alternatives inside Copilot that’s a real crack in the closed-frontier distribution moat. Logged for the weekly.
