Composer (beta)

Source: Cursor Date: 2024-07-13 URL: https://cursor.com/changelog/0-37-x

Summary

Cursor 0.37.x ships Composer in public beta — a multi-file editing feature accessible via cmd+I, enabled through Settings > Beta > Composer. No model changes or pricing adjustments in this release; the focus is entirely on the multi-file editing capability and soliciting community feedback.

Implications

Agent-IDE feature race. Composer’s beta launch is the historical origin point for what becomes Cursor’s defining feature. At this moment (July 2024), multi-file AI editing was the frontier capability — Aider was the main CLI competitor doing it, and GitHub Copilot was still primarily single-file. Cursor entering this space as an IDE-native feature rather than a patch-apply CLI was a category bet that has since defined the market.

Watch (retrospectively): The trajectory from beta Composer (0.37) to Composer 2 with proprietary model pricing (2026) illustrates how quickly an “experimental” feature can become the core value proposition and eventually the model distribution layer.
