New Composer UI, Agent, Commit Messages
Source: Cursor Date: 2024-11-24 URL: https://cursor.com/changelog/0-43-x
Summary
Cursor 0.43.x ships Composer UI in the sidebar with inline diffs, an early agent in Composer that picks its own context and can use the terminal, automatic git commit message generation, @Recommended for semantic context search, and a sneak peek at a bug finder tool.
Implications
Agent-IDE feature race. “Early agent in Composer that picks its own context and uses the terminal” is the historical inflection point — this is when Cursor’s chat-with-AI becomes agent-with-tools. Self-selected context (rather than user-specified @-references) and terminal access are the two capabilities that define the agentic paradigm. The commit message generator is a small but high-visibility feature that shows immediate developer value.
Agent-IDE feature race (bug finder preview). The bug finder sneak peek foreshadows Bugbot, which ships in 1.0 (June 2025). This is an 8-month development arc from preview to production — useful context for estimating how long Cursor’s “early” features take to mature.
Watch (retrospectively): The transition from Composer-as-editor to Composer-as-agent is the most important product transition in Cursor’s history. Every subsequent agent capability (Yolo Mode, Background Agent, cloud agents) builds from this release.
