Introducing Veo 3.1 and advanced creative capabilities

Source: DeepMind Date: 2025-10-23 URL: https://deepmind.google/blog/introducing-veo-31-and-advanced-creative-capabilities/

Summary

Google launched Veo 3.1 with enhanced audio, narrative control, and realism for video generation, plus audio integration across Flow’s editing features (Ingredients to Video, Frames to Video, Extend). A new “Insert” capability adds elements to existing video with realistic lighting and shadows; “Remove” is forthcoming. Five months post-launch, Flow has generated 275 million videos. Veo 3.1 available across Gemini API, Vertex AI, Gemini app, and Flow.

Implications

275 million videos in five months is a real adoption number. That’s 1.8M+ videos per day through Flow — significant traction for a creative platform launched into a competitive field with Runway, Sora, and Kling. If the cadence holds, Flow is establishing itself as a mainstream generation tool, not just a Google experiment.

Audio-integrated editing changes the workflow. Adding audio integration to Frames-to-Video and Extend means a creator can take a static image → Veo generates video + audio → edit and extend — all without leaving the platform. That’s a complete short-form content pipeline inside Flow.

Insert + (forthcoming) Remove is the professional editing play. Object insertion with realistic lighting/shadow and seamless removal are the features that move Veo from “generate from scratch” to “edit existing footage” — a much larger market for professional video production.

Watch:

  • 275M video adoption trajectory vs. Sora and Runway growth metrics in the same window
  • When Remove ships and whether the quality matches the Insert demo
  • Enterprise Vertex AI adoption of Veo 3.1 for production video workflows
