Claude now available in Microsoft Foundry and Microsoft 365 Copilot

Summary
Claude (Sonnet 4.5, Haiku 4.5, Opus 4.1) became available in Microsoft Foundry (serverless deployment, Azure consumption commitment eligible, Python/TypeScript/C# SDKs, Microsoft Entra auth) and Microsoft 365 Copilot (Researcher agent). Excel integration: Claude generates formulas, analyzes data, edits spreadsheets via Agent Mode. Unified billing via Azure agreements eliminates separate vendor approval. Context: removes “weeks or months of procurement overhead” for Microsoft-invested enterprises.
Implications
- Distribution / Microsoft as the enterprise procurement gateway. Azure consumption commitment (MACC) eligibility means Claude purchases draw from existing Azure budget commitments — no new vendor approval, no new procurement process. For enterprises that have committed to $10M+/year in Azure spend, Claude becomes available at zero additional procurement friction.
- M365 Copilot Researcher agent. Embedding Claude in the Researcher agent within M365 Copilot puts Claude in the workflow of the ~300M Microsoft 365 commercial users — the largest enterprise software install base in the world. This is the most significant distribution expansion in a single announcement.
- Excel Agent Mode. Excel formula generation and spreadsheet editing via Agent Mode addresses one of the most universal enterprise use cases. Excel is used by ~750M people globally; Claude’s spreadsheet capability in Excel is a concrete, immediate value add.
- Serverless in Foundry. Anthropic managing infrastructure (serverless) means enterprises don’t need to provision and manage model endpoints — they pay per call. This is the cloud-native consumption model that enterprise IT teams prefer over managed infrastructure.
- Watch: how M365 Copilot Researcher adoption compared to GitHub Copilot (both now include Claude); whether Excel Agent Mode drove measurable Pro/Enterprise plan upgrades; how the Microsoft relationship evolved relative to the AWS primary cloud partnership.
