Improved Plan Mode, AI Code Review in Editor, and Instant Grep

Source: Cursor Date: 2025-11-21 URL: https://cursor.com/changelog/2-1

Summary

Cursor 2.1 ships interactive Plan Mode with clarifying question UI and in-plan search, AI Code Reviews visible in the sidepanel (find and fix bugs directly), Instant Grep beta for faster regex-capable codebase search, and project-level hooks. Cloud agents gain GitLab, GitHub Enterprise, Sentry, and Plain integrations. Custom modes removed; users export existing modes as custom commands. Enterprise gets browser tool origin allowlists and extension allowlist/blocklist controls.

Implications

Agent-IDE feature race. AI Code Review in the editor sidepanel is Bugbot’s capabilities moved into the interactive coding session — not just PR review, but real-time code quality feedback as you work. Combined with Instant Grep for rapid codebase search, Cursor is building a quality layer into the agent loop rather than treating review as a post-commit step.

MCP/protocol adoption. Cloud agent integrations expanding to GitLab, GitHub Enterprise, Sentry, and Plain shows Cursor building a connector library that rivals enterprise workflow tools. Sentry integration is particularly significant — connecting CI error data to agent context means an agent can debug a production error with full stack trace context, not just code.

Watch: Whether AI Code Review becomes configurable (choose which rules fire) and whether Instant Grep’s regex support opens integration with security scanning (pattern-matching for known vulnerability signatures).
