Summary

Google released Nano Banana 2 (Gemini 3.1 Flash Image), an image generation model running at Flash speed with real-time Google Search grounding, subject consistency for up to 5 characters and 14 objects, precision text rendering/translation, and 512px–4K output. SynthID verification has been used 20 million times since November. Rolling out across Gemini, Google Search, Ads, Flow, and Vertex AI.

Implications

Flash-speed image generation with Search grounding is the enterprise-workflow play. The combination of production speed + real-time factual grounding (via Search) + text accuracy is aimed at marketing, advertising, and content teams who need high-volume, contextually correct imagery. Google Ads integration is the highest-leverage deployment — automated ad creative at Flash speed.

14-object subject consistency is a production-grade threshold. Up from Nano Banana Pro’s 5 characters to 14 object-subject consistency is a significant jump. Multi-product retail imagery, team portraits, and narrative multi-character content all become viable at this threshold.

SynthID at 20M verifications is provenance infrastructure. 20 million SynthID uses is both a safety feature and a market signal: content verification is actively in demand, not just a regulatory checkbox. Google is building the verification habit into the content creation loop itself.

Watch:

  • Google Ads adoption of Nano Banana 2 for automated ad creative — that’s the highest-volume use case
  • Quality comparison against Midjourney v7 and Adobe Firefly 3 in multi-object scene generation
  • Whether Flash-speed image gen holds quality at 4K output or degrades relative to Pro tier
