Introducing Claude Opus 4.7

Source: Anthropic Date: 2026-04-16 URL: https://www.anthropic.com/news/claude-opus-4-7

Summary

Anthropic launched Claude Opus 4.7 on April 16, 2026, at $5/$25/M tokens (unchanged). Improvements over Opus 4.6: higher-resolution image processing (up to 2,576 pixels), improved instruction-following, gains on Finance Agent evaluation and GDPval-AA. Cybersecurity capabilities deliberately limited relative to the unreleased “Mythos Preview” model. New Cyber Verification Program for legitimate security work. Available via Claude products, Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud Vertex AI, and Microsoft Foundry. Updated tokenizer increases token consumption by 1.0–1.35×. 28+ partner testimonials including Replit, Vercel, and Databricks.

Implications

  • Claude model cadence thread. Opus 4.7 is the current flagship as of this enrichment date (April 26, 2026). Point release at the same price point — iterative capability improvement without a pricing step-up.
  • Mythos Preview reference. The mention of deliberately limiting cybersecurity capabilities relative to “Mythos Preview” is the first public disclosure of a model under that name. Mythos is being held back — either because it’s not ready for broad deployment or because specific capabilities are being controlled before release. This is a significant signal to watch.
  • Cyber Verification Program. Creating a formal program for verified security researchers to access otherwise-limited cybersecurity capabilities is the same gated approach as the bug bounty program — Anthropic managing dual-use capability access through identity verification rather than capability removal.
  • Tokenizer change (1.0–1.35× consumption). A new tokenizer that increases token consumption is a de facto price increase of up to 35% for existing users. Anthropic is disclosing this explicitly, which is the right move, but enterprise customers with existing contracts will notice it.
  • Microsoft Foundry. Availability via Microsoft Foundry (new to this announcement) extends Claude’s enterprise distribution into Microsoft’s AI platform — alongside Bedrock and Vertex. Three hyperscaler channels simultaneously is unprecedented for Anthropic.
  • Watch: when Mythos Preview becomes generally available; how the Cyber Verification Program enrollment works in practice; whether the tokenizer change drives pricing complaints from high-volume API customers.
