Expanding digital IDs in India and around the world

Summary
Google Wallet expanded digital identity support in two directions: India now supports Aadhaar Verifiable Credentials stored on-device, with initial partners spanning entertainment, matrimony, visa applications, and gig economy verification; and passport-based ID Pass rolled out to Singapore, Taiwan, and Brazil for in-person and online age/identity checks. Both implementations use selective disclosure so only required credential fields are shared.
Implications
- Identity / agent authentication thread: On-device verifiable credentials with selective disclosure is the architecture that agent-mediated identity verification will need. As AI agents increasingly act on behalf of users, they will need to assert identity claims without transmitting full credential sets — this is the infrastructure layer being normalized at consumer scale.
- Google Wallet becoming a cross-country digital ID layer matters for any developer tooling that touches KYC, age gates, or access control in these markets.
