Claude Platform on AWS — Anthropic’s native platform through AWS billing

Summary

AWS announced general availability of Claude Platform on AWS — Anthropic’s full native Claude Platform experience accessible through existing AWS accounts with IAM authentication and AWS billing. Unlike Bedrock (which hosts models on AWS infrastructure), Claude Platform on AWS is operated by Anthropic with data processed outside the AWS security boundary. Provides access to Messages API, Files API, Message Batches API, Claude Managed Agents, Agent Skills, code execution, MCP connectors, and tool use through native AWS endpoints. AWS is the first cloud provider to offer this access model.

Implications

  • Third distribution channel for Anthropic’s API (direct, Bedrock, Claude Platform on AWS). The distinction matters: Bedrock = AWS runs the infra; Claude Platform on AWS = Anthropic runs the infra, AWS handles billing/auth. Enterprises get Anthropic’s full feature set (Managed Agents, Agent Skills) without leaving AWS billing.
  • Directly competes with OpenAI on Bedrock (announced Apr 28). Enterprise customers now choose between three options in AWS: Bedrock-hosted Claude, Bedrock-hosted OpenAI, and Anthropic-managed Claude Platform. The “Anthropic-managed” option is new and has no OpenAI equivalent.
  • Combined with the $200B Google Cloud deal and $100B+ AWS commitment, Anthropic is building multi-cloud distribution while keeping infrastructure control. The Claude Platform on AWS model means Anthropic can ship features (Managed Agents, Dreaming, Routines) without waiting for cloud provider integration.
