Stay in sync with your agent with Android Halo.

Summary

Android Halo is a persistent agent status indicator at the top of the phone screen. Provides at-a-glance visibility into what an agent is working on — progress, live mode, or messaging — without interrupting the current activity. Works with Gemini Spark and other supported agents. Advanced devices with Gemini Intelligence get additional capabilities (unspecified). Launching later this year.

Implications

  • Feeds the AG-UI / human oversight thread: Android Halo is Google’s implementation of the oversight layer that Nate identifies as one of the three essential protocol layers. It makes agent activity transparent at the OS level.
  • The mobile agent visibility problem is being solved at the OS layer (Android Halo) rather than the app layer. This gives Google a structural advantage: no third-party agent can match OS-level status integration on Android.
  • Connects to Codex mobile (May 14) — both represent the shift toward mobile agent supervision. Different approaches: Codex uses a supervisory app, Google integrates into the OS status bar.
