Bringing secure digital identity and payment tools to more people
Source: Google Date: 2026-06-04 URL: https://blog.google/products-and-platforms/platforms/google-pay/secure-identity-payment-tools/
Summary
Google is expanding Google Wallet digital ID support to select EU countries this summer, adding privacy-preserving age verification (via Sparkasse Bank) that exposes no underlying personal data, and shipping a direct checkout flow and a simplified Secure Payment Authentication (SPA) step for Google Pay. SPA testing showed a 50% reduction in authentication time and a 3% increase in conversion.
Implications
Low-signal for agentic engineering. Identity/payment infrastructure story is relevant to fintech integrations but has no direct bearing on agent tooling, model landscape, or dev infrastructure. Google Wallet’s privacy-preserving credential model is worth watching only if zero-knowledge identity primitives become relevant to agent authentication flows.
