Bring your spreadsheet data to life with Sheets canvas

Summary

Google added “Sheets canvas,” a Gemini-powered feature that turns a spreadsheet’s data into an interactive mini-app (dashboard, tracker, seating chart) from a natural-language description, kept live-synced with the source sheet in both directions, and shareable as an ordinary Sheets tab.

Implications

Two-clocks closed-vs-open capability thread: another instance of a closed-lab model (Gemini) getting embedded as the generation engine inside a mainstream productivity surface rather than shipped as a standalone chat product — the capability question isn’t “is the model good” anymore but “how deep does it sit inside tools people already use daily.” Minor signal on its own; tracked as part of the pattern of frontier labs distributing capability through product integration rather than raw API access.
