Cloud Agents Start 3x Faster with Builds
Source: Cursor Date: 2026-08-13 URL: https://cursor.com/changelog/08-13-26
Summary
Cursor shipped “builds” for Cloud Agents: pre-baked, warm environment snapshots that agents boot into instead of provisioning from scratch each session. Install steps (deps, clones) run ahead of time in background builds; only start commands run fresh at session time. Result: ~10x faster environment boot and ~3x faster time-to-first-token. If a code change breaks the build, agents keep running on the last-known-good snapshot instead of failing outright, and a new dashboard exposes build status/logs/commit-SHA per agent run. Free for existing Cloud Agents users.
Implications
jdx-tooling-metronome thread: this is the coding-agent tooling layer optimizing for iteration speed and reliability the same way local dev-tool version managers do — cache the expensive setup, isolate it from the fast path, degrade gracefully rather than hard-fail. Feeds the broader pattern of agent platforms competing on session-startup latency and environment stability, not just model quality, as agentic coding becomes routine infrastructure rather than a novelty.
